Journey Through Lands Unknown

BoneWalker This is funeral doom at its best! An EPIC album of darkness and gloom with various elements that enrich the typical genre's sound and distinguish Pantheist third release from the previous ones. As a greek, when hearing the influence of Epirus' traditional music in The Loss of Innocence, it brings tears in my eyes every damn time! "Please don’t let sorrow and grief make you bitter
With honesty and diligence search in your heart and find
The secret gift of your old innocence..." Favorite track: The Loss of Innocence.

about

It's the year 2008 and Pantheïst, a band which always had a progressive mindset, are deeply dissatisfied with the formulaic and predictable state of the 'extreme doom' genre. We entered the studio determined to record something that will shake up and disturb the 'doom metal' scene and boy, it did!

In its 62 minute length, the album displays a dazzling variety from progressive intermezzi to Celtic Frost inspired outbursts, dark folk and ethnic influences, Buddhist chants and Bathory-esque arrangements, without forgetting pure funeral doom, best exemplified in tracks such as 'Oblivion' and 'The Loss of Innocence'.

No wonder the album had a quite mixed response, with half of the listeners reacting with bewilderment or even outraged, while the other half hailed the work as a progressive doom masterpiece. This controversy continued in our October 2008 tour with Skepticism and Ophis where we performed the tracks in a variety of venues and outfits, ranging from monk robes and balaclava's to bright polo shirts.

Nowadays it's a delight to hear people such as our engineer Greg Chandler (Esoteric) proclaiming that it's his favourite Pantheïst album. There is certainly something special and unique about it, but granted, it's not for the faint of heart!

This version contains a bonus track, in the shape of the 2007 demo version of 'The Loss of Innocence'.
