about

The sophomore Pantheïst album has become something of a cult classic over the years. Recorded in 2004 at The Lodge Studios in Northampton with an emergency line-up after Kostas moved from Belgium to England, it's the band's first concept album dealing with the fantasies of an individual who wants to commit the seven cardinal sins in order to evoke God's punishment and prove His existence.

Compared to the band's debut album 'O Solitude', 'Amartia' takes a different approach, focusing on an oppressive religious atmosphere with the tracks illustrating the gloomy storyline rather than the previous classical influences, earning the tag 'church doom' by some reviewers.

The ethnic influences have also been ramped up, with the band members contributing the use of santoor, byzantine choirs, hammond organ and grand piano to add idiosyncratic brushes to the funeral doom basis. It is not all slow either, with the end of 'Apologeia' and the nasty black metal assault in 'Wrath' proving the band can also put the foot on the gas when the occasion requires so.
